Happy New Year!
Not only that, but Happy New Decade!
Instead of my usual public speaking tip, I wanted to share what I’ll be doing today. Today I will be writing a letter dated January 1st, 2030 and it will be addressed to the Maryna of today.
This is like backwards goal-setting or new year resolutions, where I’ve already achieved everything I’ve set my mind to, and now I’m reflecting back on taking those first steps.
I want to invite you to do the same. Pick up a pen (or a Google doc) and start with:
Dear Me of 2020,
Here is something I’d really love for you to know …
Let your hand, your brain, and your heart do the writing, but if you get stuck here are a few other prompts:
- Can you believe that you ____
- I’m so happy that you started doing ____
- I’m proud of you for accomplishing ___
- You were smart to let go of ___
- Please remember that you that you are ____
- If you get stuck, just focus on ___
- Don’t get discouraged when you ___, it’s part of the plan!
It might look funny reading this right now, but writing a letter to myself gets me really focused and energized to be who I want to be. It’s like a roadmap to getting what I really want and a word of encouragement for when things don’t go my way. (And just in case you’re looking for a job, I have a resource for managing your finances)
If you follow just one of my tips, I hope it’s this one.
(And if you think there’s something I should add to my letter, I’d love for you to let me know.)
Happy New Year, from my family to yours. I’m wishing you a year (and a decade) of health and happiness, and being more of who you really want to be.
Cheers!
